Merry Christmas Birmingham

Friday 12 April 2013

This was 2004 when I was staying at Coventry, UK for a long running project going on for an It Consultancy. It was a small sleepy town and there was nothing much to do over there so we used to frequent Birmingham quite often as this was the closest happening town and pretty easily accessible through public transport. It took 20 minutes by train and probably around 45 minutes by bus with pretty reasonable fares. December 2004 was our first Christmas at UK and we were kind of blown away by the complete change in surroundings in preparation for Christmas. As I'm heading closer to another Christmas back here at India 8 years later I can't stop myself getting nostalgic about my first Christmas at UK. The pictures posted below are taken near the Birmingham train station during my Christmas visit to Birmingham in December 2004.

Christmas Flea Market

Flea market is a pretty interesting concept in Europe and this was our first exposure to it. It's a type of bazaar that rents space to people who want to sell or barter merchandise ranging from low quality items to bargain priced items of the highest quality or used goods. You will find a pretty interesting medley of goods on display and is a complete visual delight. The sheer variety of goods is enough to keep you hooked for a few hours.

Christmas Fair

I could watch many Santa's going around in bright red costume and white beard. All this was pretty infectious and we could not stop ourselves but to join the crowd enjoying the Christmas madness.
